Lightweight tents

The packing weight is of course a dominant factor in this segment of tents. There are lightweight tents weighing less than one kilo. There are also tents with lots of headroom and still a relatively low packing weight. In this segment of tents it comes down to a choice in the ratio between packing weight and available space inside the tent. When trekking with a tent in your backpack, the weight of the tent is often more decisive. When (motor)cycling many days in a row, the available space in a tent can also be a factor in the decision which tent to buy.

Material

For all active holidays, you not only need a tent with a low packing weight and compact pack size. These tents must also be easy and quick to set up. For this reason, these types of tents are almost always made of a polyester or a nylon tent fabric. Cotton or polyester / cotton is hardly used for small lightweight tents due to the higher weight and high moisture absorption of this material. Because nylon is stronger than polyester, nylon fabric can be thinner and therefore more lightweight. Ripstop canvas is often used with both polyester and nylon tent fabric. In a ripstop tent fabric, an extra thick thread is incorporated into the fabric, this is weaved in in a diamond pattern. This provides more durability and more tear resistant fabric.

Brands

Our lightweight tent collection includes various well-known brands such as Hilleberg, Eureka, Nigor, MSR and Robens. Because a tunnel model is very easy to set up, this shape is widely used, with or without a living space in front of the sleeping cabin. The advantage of a dome shaped tent is the stability, this model is a stand alone design. Also easy to set up is a tipi model (a tent with one central pole).
