The Orion III Extreme from Exped is a three-person lightweight dome tent built for campers who want a sturdy shelter without hauling around too much bulk. Its design balances strength and weight, making it suitable for multi-day trips where pack size and reliability both matter.
The outer fly is crafted from 40-denier ripstop nylon with a silicone coating, which helps the fabric stand up to abrasion and shed moisture more readily. Inside, the tent uses a 30D ripstop nylon body combined with 20D No-See-Um mesh to keep tiny bugs out while allowing air to circulate. The 70D taffeta-nylon groundsheet adds another layer of protection against rough or damp terrain. You’ll also find guylines, pegs and a compact carry bag included, so everything you need is right there.
Denier (D) is a measure of thread thickness: higher numbers generally mean tougher, heavier material. Ripstop nylon is woven with a reinforcing pattern to prevent small tears from spreading. The silicone coating boosts durability and helps the fabric resist moisture. The tent’s listed weight (3.9 kg full, 3.6 kg trail weight) reflects the difference between all included components and just the essentials you’d carry on a trek.

Exped says about the Orion III Extreme
